| Onondaga Country Courthouse Exterior Renovations Historical Construction Manager The task at hand for this project was to seal the deteriorating building envelope and restore the domed copper roof/cupolas while still preserving its historic features and craftsmanship. We knew it would be unique, challenging, and highly visible as it is located in the heart of downtown Syracuse. Specifically, the project included the removal and replacement of the building’s historic ornamental copper, including four small domes and the large, central dome/cupola. The clay tile roof replacement included material manufactured by the same company that fabricated the courthouse’s original tile. The roof removal and replacement was protected from unsettled and unpredictable weather. This was no simple task since elements of the ornamental copper had to be removed and shipped to the manufacturer for exact replication. This left the building exposed for months. During the restoration, Hueber-Breuer maintained complete building occupancy without interruption to daily courthouse proceedings and trials, and organized safe, pedestrian traffic. The Onondaga County Courthouse is now wonderfully restored and its historic details and copper domes are a beautiful part of the city’s skyline. |
