| Institute for Human Performance New construction General Construction Although first conceived solely as a sports medicine center, the Institute for Human Performance broadened its scope to include a full range of health, research and care programs for people of all ages – all within one city block. The opening of the Institute for Human Performance at SUNY Upstate Medical University showcased to the world the a most advanced and inspirational biotechnology facility. Many years of planning went into its vision. It was imperative to get it right. There were challenges along the way; poor soil conditions, unexpected ground water, a complete redesign of the foundation system after construction had begun, and a crane toppling accident. Hueber-Breuer was not deterred. The result is a spectacular, skylit structure housing an array of interactive enterprises dedicated to the health and understanding of the human body through research, rehabilitation, and education. |
