St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center
Critical to the success of this fast-track project was Hueber-Breuer’s close teamwork with the design professionals and hospital facilities staff. Another key component was the ability to plan and execute a project that had a high level of complexity, sensitive environments, and restrictive physical parameters. When faced with a slate of expanding programs and services, St. Joseph’s Hospital selected Hueber-Breuer to manage it’s expansion and renovation.
Complicating matters was the need for all renovations had to be performed without interruption to vital patient services. With a challenging steep 150,000 SF hillside, Hueber-Breuer was charged with stabilizing the site and providing a sound foundation for a stilt-supported structure. Over 200 tendons were grouted horizontally into the hillside and attached to I-beams. They were then capped at the other end with concrete to form a 25-foot-deep, 300-foot-long retaining wall.
Once constructed, Hueber-breuer built the eight-story addition, installed mechanical and electrical services in the new and existing structures, and performed extensive renovation – all without adversely affecting hospital routine.
