Institute of Human Performance

Healthcare
505 Irving Ave, Syracuse Syracuse New York United States

Property Description

Although first conceived solely as a sports medicine center, the Institute for Human Performance broadened its scope to include a full range of health, research and care programs for people of all ages – all within one city block. The opening of the Institute for Human Performance at SUNY Upstate Medical University showcased to the world the a most advanced and inspirational biotechnology facility. Many years of planning went into its vision. It was imperative to get it right.

There were challenges along the way; poor soil conditions, unexpected ground water, a complete redesign of the foundation system after construction had begun, and a crane toppling accident. Hueber-Breuer worked to deliver a spectacular, skylit structure housing an array of interactive enterprises dedicated to the health and understanding of the human body through research, rehabilitation, and education. The institute now features an indoor track with force plates that lie just below the surface to detect impulses as minute as a runner’s heartbeat, moveable bottom indoor pool, over 100 research labs and custom hydrotherapy pool.
