An open door. That’s what the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce wanted visitors to see when they looked at the organization’s new downtown headquarters. To convey that feeling, the building’s architects relied heavily on glass – from the soaring atrium lobby to the stepped back façade of blue and grey spandrel glass.

But there was a potential problem. Delivery of the glass system specified in the design required an extremely long lead time. To assure that the project was completed on time, the decision was made to build the structure “inside out.” Interior walls and finishes were constructed first while installation of the exterior glass wall system was saved for last. Since most of the construction took place in the dead of a Central New York winter, a complex temporary protection system was also necessary. Through a combination of experience and innovation, Hueber-Breuer was able to bring the project in on schedule. It pays to hire a builder that knows construction inside out.
